A 26-year-old doctor committed suicide in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, allegedly after her boyfriend refused to marry her as her family could not meet dowry demands. State Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into the death of Dr Shahana, who was pursuing a post-graduate course at the Department of Surgery, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The police have registered a case against the lover under the Abetment to Suicide and Dowry Prevention Act. They recorded the statement of the woman's relatives. A mob of around 40 men yesterday entered a house and abducted a 24-year-old Telangana woman on the day of her engagement, a tense video clip of the incident shows. After an hour-long police operation, she was safely rescued and some of the accused were picked up. A case has also been filed. The woman was a Bachelor of Dental Surgery graduate and working as a house surgeon, was kidnaped from her own home in Adibatla village of Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad in Telangana.
