Jadavpur University (JAB) Pro Vice-Chancellor Samantak Das was found dead at his home in South Kolkata on Wednesday, police said.
He was taken to Bangur Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police have sent the body for post-mortem. It is known that Das was suffering from depression for the past few days.
University officials said when Professor Das did not come to his office in the morning, an automobile would be sent to pick him up for work. But he did not answer after knocking the door. Later the neighbors broke the door and saw his body falling from the roof.
An official from Regent Park police said, “We have sent the body for post-mortem. We are also conducting a basic investigation into the matter.”
