Zoom introduces ‘AI Companion’ to improve productivity

Zoom has unveiled a new AI chatbot that helps people work smarter. The chatbot, called Zoom AI Companion, helps users with various tasks such as crafting chat responses with appropriate tone and length and missing them in meetings.

One of the chatbot’s most useful features is that it allows users to ask specific questions about meetings they’ve missed. The chatbot supports smart recordings by automatically dividing cloud recordings into smart chapters for easy review and creating actionable actions. This feature is now available.

The chatbot’s email compose features are expected to launch “later this month.” When they become available, users will be able to compose emails as well as instantly shorten chat messages.

The chatbot’s capabilities will be further expanded “this fall” with AI Companion suggestions to help users complete their sentences and responses. AI will also assist chat channels, automatically detecting meeting intent in chat messages and displaying a schedule button when needed.

Ultimately, chatbots will help users brainstorm ideas on a digital whiteboard and organize them into categories accordingly, helping them work more efficiently.

Zoom says AI Companion will be available “with paid services to your Zoom user account” at no additional cost.

The announcement comes after much confusion over Zoom’s updated terms of how the company uses data to train its AI models. After feedback about the platform reserving the right to train AI on your calls without your permission, the terms of service were updated to assure users that this is not the case.

In the press release about AI Companion, Zoom continues to make the same commitment that the platform will not use your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications for customer content for Zoom or third-party AI models.
