YouTuber Roddur Roy arrested by the Kolkata Police for uploading a video in which he made derogatory statements in opposition to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee on June 5.
This is, however, now not the first time that Roy has uploaded such videos with derogatory comments on the video sharing as well as on social media platform. He has almost 3,23,000 subscribers.
A senior officer of the town police’s detective branch said that they had acquired a couple of complaints towards Roy after he posted a video criticising Mamata Banerjee on Sunday.
“TMC MP Santanu Sen had previously filed a complaint with the police commissioner, while I filed a complaint in opposition to Roy at Chitpur police station. He had abused Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and other TMC leaders such as nation minister Firhad Hakim and MLA Madan Mitra,” stated Riju Dutta, a TMC spokesperson.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, however, took a jibe at the police questioning the timing of the arrest.
“When Roy had abused Rabindranath Tagore and different personalities, the police didn’t care to arrest him. But when he made derogatory statements towards the chief minister, a combing operation was once launched and he was once arrested from Goa,” said Anupam Hazra, BJP countrywide secretary and former MP.
“He have to have been arrested lots earlier. He makes use of such derogatory words to distort even Rabindra Sangeet and makes use of slang to malign anyone he doesn’t like on social media. But no-one took any steps. I hope no one will question why he used to be arrested,” stated Kunal Ghosh, TMC spokesperson.
