A 23-year-old man was hacked to dying by using an unidentified group of 4-5 men in Surathkal on the outskirts of Karnataka’s Mangaluru district on Thursday night and the incident was once captured on CCTV cameras outside a garb store. Following the incident, prohibitory orders banning large gatherings have been imposed below Section 144 CrPC in Suratkal. The police have detained 12-13 people so far.
“At round 8 pm (on July 28), there was an incident where 23-year-old Mohammed Fazil used to be brutally attacked through 4-5 people near Krishnapura Katipalla road, Surathkal. He used to be at once shifted to a hospital and used to be declared dead,” said N Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru Police Commissioner.
“He was once attacked with a lethal weapon with the aid of a team of youths. A case has been filed at Surathkal PS. Section one hundred forty four CrPC has been imposed at Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe, Panambur,” he added. “We are taking up a grievance of an eyewitness who was with the deceased in the course of the incident and a case of murder in Surathkal PS. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation in necessary areas beneath Mangaluru metropolis commissionerate, we’ve imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144,” said Kumar.
The police also requested the Muslim leaders to operate prayers at their homes. “All wine shops below the commissionerate limits will be closed for July 29. We have requested all Muslim leaders to operate their prayers at their homes, in the larger pastime of the regulation and order of every locality. Due justice will be finished quickly and fairly.”
