Young leaders are honored by the Arunachal Governor during a Scouts and Guides ceremony

At a ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik presented 43 young people with the coveted Bharat Scouts and Guides Rajya Puraskar, highlighting their contribution to creating a more powerful India. Speaking to the group of 21 Scouts and 22 Guides who were awarded the state’s highest scouting honor, Governor Parnaik stated, “The Rajya Puraskar is not merely recognition, but a responsibility to serve with greater zeal.” Since its modest beginnings in 1948 with just 24 boys in Pasighat, scouting in Arunachal Pradesh has grown remarkably, as the event demonstrated.

According to State Officer Commander Chanyan Lowang, the movement currently has over 13,000 active members and 877 units spread throughout 439 schools. Parnaik emphasized the role of youth leadership in realizing the goal of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), focusing on the movement’s contribution to nation-building. The festivities, which included cultural performances by Hornbill English Medium School pupils and Scout and Guide first aid skill displays, were attended by State Chief Commissioner Marken Kadu and Education Minister PD Sona.

Only 43 of the 161 qualifiers for the Rajya Puraskar were able to physically attend the ceremony. The initiative is “a wonderful platform to develop leadership skills, discipline, and a sense of responsibility,” Governor Parnaik said, encouraging more kids to participate. Traditional dance routines, along with a special presentation on water conservation, marked the ceremony’s conclusion and demonstrated the movement’s dedication to both modern social challenges and cultural preservation.
