Yellow alert issued for north Bengal, 2164.34 cumec water released from Teesta barrage

Small and big rivers are in spate due to incessant rains in the Jalpaiguri district. Meanwhile, yellow signal has been issued in Teesta river. According to the Irrigation Department, 2164.34 cumecs of water were released from the Teesta barrage at 8 am on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, there have been recorded rain in Malbazar. The amount of rain is being reported as 102.70 mm.

At the same time, the people of the nearby villages are worried due to the rise in the water level of Teesta river. Due to heavy rains in Sikkim, the water level of other rivers of the district including Teesta can also rise. In view of this possibility, additional water has been released from the Teesta barrage. The Jalpaiguri district has been receiving sporadic spells of rainfall since last night. The sky remained cloudy since Wednesday morning. Siliguri recorded 37.40 in the last 24 hours, Malbazar in Jalpaiguri district recorded the highest rain 102.70 mm and Banarhat 45 mm.

Rainfall has been comparatively less in Maynaguri and Toofanganj. 2164.34 cumec of water was released from Teesta river at 8 am on Wednesday. Significantly, the North Bengal Flood Control Department has already issued a yellow signal in the unprotected area of ​​Teesta. On the other hand, the temperature has dropped significantly due to rain. To some extent, winter mood prevails in the entire district.
