World TB Day is observed in West Kameng

Under Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar’s direction, the District Health Society of West Kameng commemorated World Tuberculosis Day with the theme “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.” In addition to simultaneous observances in 34 health centers throughout the area, the major event was held at Kameng Club in Bomdila. Speaking to the crowd, Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar praised the District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) and her staff for their hard work in making West Kameng one of the top-performing districts for TB control.

“TB is a contagious illness. Eradication depends on early discovery. She promised complete administrative support in the effort to eradicate tuberculosis in West Kameng, saying, “It is essential to share the information with the community if any person or village receives a diagnosis to ensure timely intervention.” She asked Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Nikshay Mitras, and other stakeholders to actively raise awareness about TB prevention and treatment, emphasizing the availability of appropriate therapy.

District Tuberculosis Officer Newang Drema presented a PowerPoint report on the district’s TB control efforts, highlighting key symptoms and the role of Nikshay Mitras. 27 gram panchayats have declared TB-free, with three receiving Silver and 24 receiving Bronze Awards. The Nikshay Poshan Yojana has led to a 97.2% treatment success rate. Dr. R.D. Thongchi addressed World TB Day.
