World Environment Day observed at Horticulture Research Station, Kahikuchi

World Environment Day 2025 was observed in a meaningful and green manner at the Horticulture Research Station in Kahikuchi, Guwahati. The event was led by Chief Scientist Dr. Sunil Kumar Borah and saw enthusiastic participation from all scientists and staff of the station.

Dr. Borah began the programme by highlighting the importance of World Environment Day and the critical role plants play in sustaining human life. He explained how natural ecosystems provide vital services and called upon everyone to avoid single-use plastics, aligning with this year’s global theme of environmental protection.

As a symbol of their commitment to nature, the staff and scientists of the research station planted ten mahogany saplings within the station campus. The plantation drive was actively joined by scientists including Dr. Dhiren Choudhury, Dr. Kusum Kr. Deka, Dr. Jayanta Kr. Sharma, Dr. Kaberi Mahanta, and Dr. Seema Bhagowati. All attendees took a pledge to care for the Earth, work towards a cleaner environment and contribute to a greener and healthier planet for the coming generations.
