World Environment Day 2021: Awareness And Action Needed to Restore The Ecosystem

World Environment Day is globally celebrated every year on June 5 and is the United Nations’ principal amplifier to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The theme for this year is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and brings into focus the critical importance of preserving eco-fragility for collective well-being. “The pandemic has shown us that if we stay oblivious to the destruction of eco-diversity, we will pay dearly. Only proactive synergy between all stakeholders can protect the environment,” says Bikrant Tiwary, CEO of Grow-Trees.com (GT).

On June 5, Grow-Trees.com is also celebrating its Founder’s Day and 11 eventful years of its inception. GT is a social initiative that was started in the Year 2010 with a vision to increase environmental awareness through planting or gifting trees on special occasions and went on to become the official partner of UN Environment Program’s ‘Billion Tree Campaign’ and joined WWF’s ‘Cities for Forest’ Campaign in 2011.

India and Bollywood celebrities are not far behind in channeling their massive fanbase to draw the attention towards the threat to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change. First observed in 1974, World Environment Day is now celebrated every year on June 05 at a global platform to spread awareness and inspire a positive change in the environment.

Taking to their respective social media handles this Saturday, the Tinsel Town celebrities were seen pledging support to nature in their own ways. From Shraddha Kapoor being “grateful for mother nature” to Kriti Sanon sharing pictures from the wild, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan becoming one with the flora and fauna and campaigns being run by Alia Bhatt, Dia Mirza and Madhuri Dixit, Bollywood is pledging their support to protect the environment.

Alia Bhatt wished her fans on Word Environment Day 2021 by sharing a beach picture. In the photo, she flashes a broad smile as she poses with a kid around.

Ajay Devgn took to Instagram to share a picture of himself sitting in peace in a secluded green area, and wrote, “Meditate – Some answers are found on the ‘inner net’. Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay”

Kareena Kapoor shared a video of her son Taimur on Instagram and wrote in the caption, “Protect ❤️ Heal ❤️ Love ❤️.”

Bollywood diva and environmentalist Raveena Tandon has always been very vocal about environment protection and social causes.

Varun Dhawan shared a video clip from Arunachal Pradesh’s Ziro village where he was shooting for his upcoming film Bhediya.

Shilpa Shetty, who is mostly seen practicing yoga in open places, rich in greenery and peace, wrote a longer post emphasising on the fact that how one and all stuck at home due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns is missing the outdoors. She wrote, “All of us being indoors has helped the rest of the ecosystem regain some balance over the past year. But, even when we get back to the ‘old normal’, we have to remember to treat Mother Nature with respect. Let’s collectively learn to take the initiative without being told to do so. Even if you can’t personally plant trees, be involved in conversations that need voices to amplify the message. Educate yourself on how every individual can help with the #EcosystemRestoration, and spread awareness about it. This is an ongoing battle. They say small acts multiplied by millions of people will make a difference ❤️🌍”
