The Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), in collaboration with MakeMyTrip, has launched “Project Maitri” to support women’s entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the northeast region of India. The initiative focuses on women in the north-east region of the country, by leveraging the untapped potential of homestays as a pathway to entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and independence. Launched at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Center in Itanagar, the event was graced by Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shri Pema Khandu.
Project Maitri empowers and inspires homestay owners across all northeastern states, offering specialized training in hospitality, safety, digital marketing, and compliance. The top three homestay owners will receive awards, further incentivizing excellence and innovation in the sector.
WEP, incubated under NITI Aayog, offers a SmartMatch-based platform for government schemes and private sector initiatives, a knowledge base, a community platform, mentorship, and capacity-building resources. Applications for the transformative program will open on December 13, 2023, on the WEP website.MakeMyTrip Co-founder and Group CEO, Rajesh Magow, believes in the transformative power of travel and looks forward to seeing these women entrepreneurs flourish in India’s tourism industry.
