Walmart announced 32,000+ MSMEs have completed training under the Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Program since its launch in December 2019. Over 6,000 have been onboarded and active on Flipkart’s marketplace, providing them with wider access and reach to a pan-India consumer base.The Indian MSME sector is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2028, contributing 33% of India’s GDP and creating 120 million jobs.
It includes small-scale entrepreneurs like women, marginal entrepreneurs, traditional craftspeople, and local artisans who lack business skills in today’s digital environment. Walmart aims to expand local entrepreneurs and suppliers’ businesses, create domestic jobs, and support the Indian MSME sector.
With a five-year investment plan, Walmart plans to train 50,000 MSMEs by 2024 through the Vriddhi program with Swasti, aiming to create a wider supply chain and sustain growth. Jason Fremstad, Senior Vice President, Supplier Development, Walmart, said, “Witnessing over 30,000 MSMEs to date embrace the digital route is a testament to the significance of equipping them with future-ready skills.”Walmart provides on-demand learning modules for MSMEs since 2019, covering marketing, finance, supply chain management, data-driven insights, and emerging trends, enabling growth and scaling through a community and personalized mentoring.
