V Zirsanga takes over as new CEM of LADC

Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader V Zirsanga will be sworn in as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) on Thursday, following the approval of Mizoram Governor VK Singh.

Zirsanga’s appointment follows the collapse of the MNF-Congress coalition-led executive committee in LADC on February 12, after CEM C Lalmuanthanga resigned just before a scheduled floor test. The MNF-Congress coalition had taken charge of the council on May 14, 2024, but lost its majority after Zirsanga and another MNF member, Lallawmsanga Apetow, pledged support to ZPM.

With the shift in allegiance, the current composition of the 25-member council stands as:

ZPM – 13 members
MNF – 11 members
Congress – 1 member
Following the political realignment, Zirsanga and ZPM leaders met the governor and staked their claim to form the next executive committee.
