The Assam Police on Thursday night arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in another doctor assault incident in Assam’s Biswanath district. According to reports, senior medical officer Dr Goswami was attacked by a mob at Majuligarh tea estate on 9th June when he was returning from his evening walk. The doctor was rescued from the mob by his domestic staff. He is being treated for injuries at a hospital in Biswanath at present.
Later Biswanath district police had registered a case (no – 167/21) under Section 143/447/352/325/307 of IPC and R/W Section 51(B) of DM Act at Biswanath Chariali police station following an FIR lodged by the doctor. On Friday, Superintendent of Police in Biswanath district Ripul Das said that based on the FIR the police have so far arrested two people in the case. They have been identified as Ajit and Sujit Tanti.
He also added, “The incident which took place at Majuli tea estate is very unfortunate. Following the incident, we registered a case. During investigation, we found three persons were mainly involved in the incident. We have arrested two among them. Our investigation is on and we will be able to catch the other accused person also,”.
