In order to assess the survival condition of turtle hatchlings, a team from the Turtle Survival Alliance Foundation and Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma visited the hatching location at Kalyan Sagar Lake, which is close to the famous Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati District, on Sunday. The crew came here to conduct a year-long assessment of the turtle population and offer the state government professional advice for long-term protection. One of the 51 holy Hindu Shaktipeethas, the Tripura Sundari Temple is a sanctuary for the environment as well as a major place of worship.
The temple is located in southern Udaipur, approximately 55 kilometers from the capital, Agartala, on a turtle-shaped hillside with a view of the Kalyan Sagar Lake, which is home to the critically endangered Bostami turtles. Conservationists nationwide have taken notice of a surviving population of Bostami turtles that were formerly thought to be extinct in the wild, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). “The necessary actions are being taken to ensure the turtle hatchlings’ survival.” Today, the Turtle Survival Alliance Foundation arrived at Kalyan Sagar, Matabari Temple. They will conduct a one-year assessment of the turtle population and provide the state government with professional advice,” he continued.
