Former US President Donald Trump could not stay away from social media for a very long time. The ex-President has launched his own communications platform called From the Desk of Donald J Trump. The platform which is a subsection of Trump’s official website was launched on Tuesday. The announcement comes months after Trump was kicked out of all major social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more.
Announcing Trump’s new platform, his spokesman Jason Miller wrote on Twitter, “President Trump’s website is a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office, but this is not a new social media platform. We’ll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future.”
Fox News first reported about the new communications platform by Trump. However, contrary to the rumors, his spokesman cleared the air that the communications platform is an extension of his website, not a new social media platform. The space is exclusively for Trump to share his views, post videos, and interact with his followers. The website carries a video of Trump and a few of his comments on the Democrats. The video says, “In a time of silence and lies. A beacon of freedom arises. A place to speak freely and safely.”
Coincidentally, Trump launched his communications platform a day before Facebook is expected to announce its decision on whether Trump’s account should be banned indefinitely or whether the ban should be lifted. As per reports, the Facebook oversight board has already decided Trump’s fate and the announcement about the same would be made shortly.
Trump was banned by social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and others four months ago after he was found inciting the Capitol Hill rioters. Facebook had then banned Trump indefinitely and COO Sheryl Sandberg had even shared that the company has no plans to lift the ban.
Facebook CEO Zuckerberg too had expressed concerns over letting Trump remain on its platform. “We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete,” he had said via a Facebook post.
