Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday announced a major boost to the state’s tourism sector with the signing of a lease agreement between the Tripura government and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), part of the Taj Group, to convert Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star heritage hotel.
Built in 1917 and once serving as the Governor’s House, Pushpabanta Palace will now be transformed into a 100-room luxury hotel with four exclusive palace-themed suites. “This is a proud day for Tripura,” said CM Saha. “Our long-cherished dream is now becoming a reality. This agreement is unique—no such lease deal has been signed between any state government and IHCL before.”
The Chief Minister stated that although the original completion timeline was set at three years, the state has requested IHCL to finish the project within two. He emphasized that this development marks a new era in tourism and heritage conservation in Tripura.
Retrofitting has already begun, and the project—spread over 7.78 acres—is expected to generate around 200 local jobs. The initiative aims to attract both domestic and international tourists, further enhancing Tripura’s appeal as a heritage destination.
