Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday alleged that an “organised vicious circle” is behind a series of deliberate acts of sabotage targeting the state’s power infrastructure. The claim comes after widespread blackouts hit Agartala and nearby areas earlier in the day. CCTV footage from Kamarpukur locality showed a man on a two-wheeler tampering with a transformer, which led to an immediate power outage. The incident is among at least 21 cases where transformers across Agartala were deliberately damaged.
“There is no shortage in power generation or supply in Tripura. These are clear acts of sabotage aimed at disrupting normal life,” said Minister Nath, warning that such actions pose serious risks to public safety. Officials from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) reported cutouts being removed and transformer gangs dismantled at multiple sites, despite main transmission lines remaining intact. In some areas, miscreants allegedly threw objects on power lines to cause short circuits.
Areas affected include Dhaleswar Road, Chandrapur, Joyguru, Shivnagar, and Kamarpukur. An FIR has been lodged, and police have begun examining further CCTV footage to track the culprits.
