Forest officials in Tripura have arrested two youths accused of killing four monkeys and a monitor lizard in the Tarani Nagar Malakar Para area under Kanchan Bari, Unakoti District. The shocking incident, which occurred earlier this week, triggered widespread anger among local residents. Some villagers reportedly attempted to capture the accused themselves, even planning to restrain them in sacks.
However, calmer members of the community intervened, preventing any outbreak of violence and ensuring that the suspects were handed over safely to the police.”We appreciate the restraint shown by the residents in allowing legal procedures to take their course,” a police spokesperson said. According to officials, two additional suspects involved in the killings managed to flee the scene. A search operation is underway to apprehend them.
The Forest Department has registered a case under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act. Officials have confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against all those responsible for harming protected animals.
