Tripura to recruit 432 nurses to strengthen state healthcare: CM Manik Saha

In a major step toward improving healthcare services in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday announced the recruitment of 432 nursing staff—332 on a permanent basis and 100 under contractual terms.

Speaking at the International Nurses Day celebration at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, emphasized the critical role nurses play in the healthcare system. “Nurses are the first to attend to a patient and often the last to offer comfort—they are the trust of the dying,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that 153 nurses have already been appointed this year, and necessary financial clearance has been obtained for hiring 100 more on contract. He also urged young people in Tripura to pursue nursing, highlighting the profession’s global demand and economic impact.

Dr. Saha announced that the state has upgraded the Nursing Training Institute into the Agartala Government Nursing College. He also said that B.Sc Nursing, MBBS, and BDS courses are now offered within the state. Moreover, the 40-seat ANM institute in Udaipur has been upgraded to a GNM institute.

Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, and senior health officials also attended the event.
