Tripura to launch first solar-powered village in Rangachhara

Tripura is all set to establish its first solar-powered village in Rangachhara, located in Mohanpur sub-division of West District, benefiting around 600 families through sustainable energy solutions. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday announced the initiative, highlighting that every household in Rangachhara already has electricity and will now also receive solar connections. “We aim to generate 60 kilowatts of power from the village, which will be fed into the state grid. Not a single rupee will be taken from the villagers,” he said.

The project is being spearheaded by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), which has already installed solar-powered pumps and a water treatment plant in the village. Once completed, Rangachhara may be officially declared a ‘Solar Gram’ by the Central Government.

Nath said the project will significantly lower electricity bills for the villagers. “Ahead of the festival of lights, I visited Rangachhara. The entire village is waiting for an early Diwali,” he remarked.
