Tripura Sundari Devi temple gets Rs 42 crore revamp for spiritual tourism

The iconic Tripura Sundari Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has undergone a significant transformation under a Rs 42 crore development initiative aimed at promoting spiritual tourism and enhancing facilities for devotees. The project, led by Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Bhaskar Das Gupta, was funded through Rs 33 crore from the Central government’s PRASHAD and Swadesh Darshan schemes, along with Rs 9 crore provided by the state government.

Key upgrades include the renovation of the temple premises, the construction of two toilet blocks, a changing room, office spaces, guest rooms, and a meditation hall. The temple complex also features a three-storied structure with a basement housing stalls selling local delicacies such as ‘Pera.’

Originally built in 1500 AD by King Dhanya Manikya, the temple has been a center of religious faith for over five centuries. Tripura Sundari Devi is revered as the Kul Devi (family deity) of Tripura, attracting between 30,000 to 40,000 devotees daily, with footfall soaring to 3-4 lakh during Deepawali.
