Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has submitted a ₹431.71 crore proposal to the North Eastern Council (NEC) aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in milk, meat, and egg production across the state and the region. In a high-level meeting chaired by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dr. Saha also pressed for a modern animal disease detection lab in the state.
Highlighting livestock and fisheries as vital sectors, Dr. Saha said Tripura is focused on bridging the nutritional gap by ramping up dairy, poultry, and fish production. Initiatives include the use of sex-sorted semen for artificial insemination, dairy cooperative support, and incentives for poultry entrepreneurs, especially women.
Tripura has also sought ₹816.5 crore from NEC to expand fisheries through renovation of water bodies under PM Matsya Sampada Yojana and the state’s own Matsya Vikas Yojana. Over ₹126 crore has already been invested in fishery development in the past five years.The proposals aim to strengthen food security and economic development in Tripura while supporting the wider Northeast region.
