Tripura Sees Major Growth in Organic Farming, Coverage Reaches 26,000 Hectares

Tripura’s State Agriculture Department has significantly increased its focus on organic farming, growing from approximately 2,000 hectares of organic cultivation to around 26,000 hectares. This expansion was highlighted by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the inauguration of the State Level Kisan Mela 2025-26 and the awarding of State and District Level Best Farmers Awards in Agartala. Minister Nath underscored the crucial role of farmers in boosting the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), particularly through the agricultural sector. He noted that Tripura has attained self-sufficiency in food grains in three districts, with a 12 percent increase in food grain production this year compared to the last, indicative of a strengthening agricultural sector and increasing youth involvement in farming. Furthermore, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, approximately 15.2 million farmers have received coverage. Over the past seven years, the state government has allocated Rs 461 crore to enhance agricultural markets statewide. The program was attended by officials from the Agriculture Department and farmers from various districts.
