Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has called on residents to transform into electricity producers by installing solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana. The initiative aims to reduce electricity bills to zero while promoting sustainable energy solutions. Speaking at a special camp organized by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) in Agartala, Nath lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a solar-powered future.
“Traditional resources like coal and gas are depleting. The Prime Minister’s innovative plan offers families the chance to generate electricity with government subsidies and earn by selling surplus power to the grid,” Nath said. The camp facilitated consumer registration, vendor selection, and access to bank loans for implementing solar projects. Nath highlighted the urgency of participating in the scheme, which will remain available until 2026.
Launched in February 2024, the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana aims to generate 500 gigawatts of solar energy by 2030, with 200 gigawatts already achieved. Special subsidies for Tripura under its special category status make solar installations more affordable for residents.
