Tripura police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have arrested 12 Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian touts involved in illegal activities across the Indo-Bangladesh border. In the first operation, West Agartala Police apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals—Sohel Rana, Nurman Ali, Hamim Ali, Litan Ali, and Salim Riyaj—who had entered Tripura illegally. Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das confirmed that the detainees, originally from Chapai Nababganj, were found with mobile phones, and a case has been filed against them. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the touts involved in facilitating their illegal entry.
In a separate incident, Lefunga Police Station Chief Sahadeb Das reported the arrest of seven more Bangladeshi nationals and their Indian facilitator, Jiban Baishya, in the Bamutia area of West Tripura district. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an autorickshaw in Berimura, near the Indo-Bangladesh border, leading to the detention of MD Abdullah, MD Mujibur Rahman, MD Sahlal, MD Sifat, MD Rubel Islam, MD Hasmat Ali, and MD Abdur Rahman, along with Baishya, who is an auto driver.
Furthermore, a joint operation by the BSF and Government Railway Police (GRP) on August 24 led to the arrest of two Indian touts from Belabor, a border village. The BSF’s press release indicated that the suspects were actively involved in facilitating illegal migration and human trafficking. The intensified operations aim to combat such trans-border crimes and dismantle tout networks.
