In a bid to bridge the gap in Aadhaar coverage for young children, the Tripura government has launched an intensive enrolment drive targeting children aged 0-5. With an estimated 2.87 lakh children in this age group, the state is focused on ensuring that more children are included in the Aadhaar system to streamline access to essential government services.
Currently, only 98,000 children—around 34 percent of the target population—have been issued Aadhaar cards, which is slightly below the national average of 38 percent. This highlights the need for accelerated efforts to ensure every child is enrolled.
To expedite the process, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has tasked the state’s Health and Family Welfare Department with the responsibility of overseeing the enrolment. The government has received 138 Child Enrolment Lite Client (CELC) kits, which were officially handed over on April 22. The Health and Family Welfare Department will now roll out training programs for Aadhaar operators, who will be stationed at district hospitals, primary health centres, and birth registration units across the state. These operators will begin their training in the first week of May, after which they will begin the enrolment process.
