Tripura Govt Yet to Take Final Call on HC Verdict on Fixed-Pay Recruitment

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that his government has not taken a final call on the High Court’s verdict striking down the state’s decade-old policy of appointing employees on fixed pay.“Discussions are underway among ministers and the officials after the High Court’s verdict abolishing fixed pay recruitment policy. The verdict has advantage and disadvantage also”, Saha told mediapersons on Tuesday. The Chief Minister further said that the five-year fixed pay policy was a continuous process during the previous dispensation.According to analysts, if the High Court’s verdict is implemented, it will put more burden on the state which has been under pressure following demand for Central Pay Commission.A division bench comprising MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Biswajit Palit delivered the final verdict after several writ petitions had been filed by a section of affected employees.Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman, who represented the petitioners, told reporters that the High Court has categorically held that the practice of appointing teachers, non-teaching staff, and other government officers and employees on fixed pay for years together was unconstitutional and violation of fundamental rights.
