Tripura gears up for Kharchi Puja celebrations from July 3

Tripura is gearing up for one of its most significant religious and cultural celebrations—the Kharchi Puja—scheduled to commence on July 3 at the revered Chaturdasa Devata Temple in Khayerpur under the Old Agartala block. As the week-long festival approaches, elaborate preparations are underway to ensure its smooth and vibrant observance.

Kharchi Puja, a century-old tradition, is dedicated to the worship of the Chaturdasa Devata, the fourteen ancestral deities of the Tripuri people. Over the years, the festival has evolved into a major event that attracts thousands of devotees and pilgrims from across Tripura and various parts of the country.

A high-level preparatory meeting was held at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s Conference Hall on Monday to finalize arrangements. The meeting was chaired by MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who stressed the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival.

“Kharchi is more than a religious observance—it is a symbol of our shared heritage and pride,” said Chakraborty. “We appeal to all departments, organizations, and citizens to come together and make this year’s celebration memorable.”

Additional District Magistrate Sajal Biswas outlined a comprehensive plan to manage the festival’s logistics. Key areas of focus include upgrading infrastructure around the temple complex, installing sufficient lighting, providing clean drinking water, deploying health services, and setting up a structured parking system to manage large crowds, particularly during evening hours.
