Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has made crucial financial requests to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the pre-budget meeting held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on December 20. Roy urged the immediate release of funds from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to assist with the recovery from the recent floods that caused significant damage in Tripura. He also requested a special financial package of Rs 500 crore for the development of infrastructure in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Accompanied by Additional Secretary of the Finance Department, Akinchan Sarkar, Roy expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sitharaman for their continued support towards the development of northeastern states. During the meeting, Roy highlighted the substantial progress made in Tripura under Modi’s leadership and raised several issues to accelerate the state’s development. He requested the release of the remaining Rs 14,247 crore from the NDRF to address flood damage.
In addition to these requests, the Finance Minister called for the establishment of institutions like AIIMS, IITs, and IIMs in Tripura to provide quality medical care and educational opportunities for the state’s residents. He also urged the removal of restrictions on Externally Aided Projects until the 2025-26 financial year.
