Tripura doctors donate blood mid-surgery, save cancer patient

In an inspiring act of compassion and medical duty, two doctors from Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital came to the rescue of a critically ill cancer patient by donating blood during an emergency surgery.

According to Tripura Health Department officials, the patient from Shantirbazar in South Tripura district, diagnosed with a choledochal cyst and pancreatic neoplasm, was admitted for a life-saving operation. However, during the April 30 surgery, the patient’s haemoglobin levels dropped to a dangerously low point, creating an urgent need for blood. With no family members present and no donor immediately available, Dr. Antara Roy Bhowmik and Dr. A. Kiran, both having A-positive blood group, voluntarily stepped forward to donate. Their timely intervention averted a crisis and ensured the surgery continued without delay.

Health officials confirmed that the procedure was a success, and praised the doctors for their exceptional commitment to patient care. “This act exemplifies the highest values of the medical profession,” the Health Department noted, applauding the doctors for their selfless service.
