The Tripura government on Tuesday disbursed ₹79.88 crore as direct benefit assistance to over 2.13 lakh farmers affected by the floods of August 2024. The aid, provided under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), covers 45 agricultural subdivisions across the state. Officials said the remaining three subdivisions—Ampi, Karbook, and Amarpur—will receive their share shortly.
At the official distribution event, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath reiterated the state’s goal to achieve full food grain self-sufficiency within the next three to four years. “Farmers are our breadwinners. We are committed to adopting scientific and modern farming practices to close the production gap,” Nath said.
Tripura currently produces 8.49 lakh metric tons of food grains annually against a demand of 9.53 lakh metric tons. Districts like South Tripura, Gomati, and Sepahijala have already achieved self-sufficiency, while Khowai and Dhalai are nearing the mark. Out of the 58 development blocks in Tripura, 30 are now self-sufficient in food production. The government is working to improve the remaining 28 using advanced agricultural techniques.
