The Tripura Congress is set to stage a protest on September 23 outside the Director General of Police (DGP) office, alleging police bias and partiality against party workers and leaders amid the state’s severe flooding crisis.
Tripura Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha announced the demonstration at a press conference, accusing the police of selectively ignoring FIRs and complaints. “The Tripura Police are not acting impartially and are failing to address actions against the ruling party,” Saha claimed. He alleged that party members are being targeted with false charges and harassment.
The protest is intended to spotlight the perceived lack of government sensitivity and ineffective response to the ongoing flood disaster. Saha stated, “We have decided to gherao and protest in front of DGP Amitabh Ranjan to address these issues.”
Additionally, AICC Secretary Christopher Tilak criticized the BJP government for failing to deliver on promises of job creation. He highlighted the high unemployment rate in Tripura and accused the BJP of not fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pre-election pledge to create two crore jobs annually. “Despite the Prime Minister’s promise, there has been no significant progress,” Tilak said.
Tilak also expressed concerns about Tripura’s elevated violence rates compared to the national average and condemned the “double engine government” of the BJP at both the Centre and state levels for misleading the public. He contrasted the current administration unfavorably with previous Congress-led development efforts.
