Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced today that the state government is ramping up surveillance along the international border with Bangladesh in response to the current unrest in the neighboring country. Dr. Saha, who also holds the position of Home Minister, stressed the critical need to prevent unauthorized entries into Tripura from Bangladesh. During a press briefing, he detailed his ongoing efforts to assess the situation and affirmed that the state is closely coordinating with central authorities to bolster security measures.
“I am in regular contact with the central government and have engaged with the Chief Secretary, Tripura Police, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and other security agencies. We are aligning our actions with directives from the Centre to maintain border security,” Dr. Saha stated. He further directed all security forces to collaborate effectively to stop any unauthorized crossings into Tripura, emphasizing, “We are currently not allowing anyone to cross into the state.”
Dr. Saha also condemned the recent attacks on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, calling them unacceptable. He acknowledged the efforts of members of the Muslim community in Bangladesh who are working to protect minorities and religious sites, saying, “It is encouraging to see many, including students, stepping forward to safeguard Hindu minorities and temples. We are monitoring these developments closely.”
