Tripura ADM Pradeep K faces dowry harassment charges from wife

Pradeep K, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer serving as the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Belonia Sub-division in Tripura’s South District, has been accused by his wife, M.J. Difi, of dowry harassment, abuse, and physical assault. Difi, an MBBS graduate, alleged that Pradeep K and his family demanded dowry shortly after their marriage in March 2022. She claimed her father provided financial support, including purchasing land, but the demands continued.

In a press conference, she recounted an October 2023 incident in Tamil Nadu where her belongings were thrown out, and a recent confrontation on January 8, 2025, in Belonia, where she was allegedly assaulted and left with a fractured hand. Despite her efforts to seek police assistance, Difi alleged initial inaction. An FIR was eventually filed at the Belonia Women Police Station.

“I want justice. The government must act against him,” she said. Pradeep K refuted the allegations, asserting they were baseless and aimed at maligning his reputation. He claimed he had been estranged from his wife for two years, following her alleged abuse towards him and his family. “These claims are pre-planned to harass me,” he told reporters, maintaining that witnesses could attest to his version of events.
