Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday announced that the state has successfully doubled farmers’ income over the last eight years, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national target.
Speaking at a public programme at Tufanialunga tea estate in West Tripura, Saha revealed that the average monthly income of farmers rose from ₹6,580 in 2016 to ₹13,590 in 2024. The state, home to over 4.74 lakh farmers, has seen tangible benefits from various state and central government initiatives.
Tripura farmers have received ₹2,272 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme, along with ₹446 crore in credit under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) programme. Additionally, paddy procurement under MSP reached ₹23 crore, while agricultural machinery worth ₹204.5 crore has been distributed to boost efficiency.
Highlighting rural outreach, Saha praised the Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan campaign led by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, aiming to benefit 1.72 lakh farmers across 864 gram panchayats.
The Chief Minister also announced a revival plan for defunct tea estates by transferring management to workers through cooperative models, ensuring sustainable growth in Tripura’s tea sector.
