The Toyota Mobility Foundation, in partnership with Challenge Works and World Resources Institute, has launched a $9 million global challenge to help cities adapt to the future, with the potential to transform the lives of millions across countries including India
Cities face increasing challenges in ensuring reliable, efficient, and inclusive transportation for people and goods. The Sustainable Cities Challenge aims to improve access to jobs, education, and essential services by collaborating with innovators to implement mobility solutions that reduce carbon, enhance accessibility, and utilize data for resilient transport systems. The Challenge for Cities, including Indian cities, is open to city leaders, municipal corporations, governments, and transport departments from June 21st to September 18th, 2023.
The theme should focus on expanding access to safe, affordable, and inclusive transportation, harnessing data to create connected and resilient mobility ecosystems, and reducing environmental impact through low-carbon and renewable energy solutions. Ryan Klem, Director of Programs at the Toyota Mobility Foundation, said: “Throughout the Sustainable Cities Challenge, we are looking to come alongside cities to find innovative solutions in the areas they identify as critical to develop a scalable model for the cities of tomorrow.”
