Three suspects caught with heroin and ₹60,000 in Tinsukia

Assam police have arrested three individuals and seized 94.25 grams of suspected heroin along with Rs 60,000 in cash following a late-night raid at Makum traffic point in Tinsukia. The operation, executed on August 30, was based on a tip-off regarding drug trafficking in the area.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Norottam Tamuli from Talpathar under Bordumsa police station, Dombaru Moran from Dirak Kophatuli under Kakopathar police station, and Lakheswar Dewgohoria from Tongna Hunjan under Bordumsa police station. They are believed to be involved in the distribution of the seized heroin.

This raid follows a series of significant drug busts in Assam earlier in July. The Special Task Force (STF) had previously confiscated over two kilograms of suspected heroin during separate operations in Guwahati and Golaghat. Four alleged drug peddlers were apprehended in connection with these seizures.

Assam Police CPRO Pranab Jyoti Goswami stated that these operations were initiated based on precise intelligence. In Goalpara, two individuals were caught with a small quantity of heroin, leading to the discovery of 140 soap boxes containing heroin at a nearby residence. Additionally, in Guwahati’s Katabari area, two drug peddlers were arrested with 308 grams of heroin, reportedly en route to Barpeta from Dimapur, Nagaland via the Awadh Assam Express.
