Thiruvananthapuram hosts 2nd meeting of G-20 EMPOWER

Thiruvananthapuram in Kerela is hosting the second G20 EMPOWER (Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency with the Ministry of Women & Child Development. It is scheduled to held till 6 April. The theme of the meeting is ‘Women Empowerment: A Win–Win for Equality and Economy’. The meeting saw deliberations on the issue of women’s safety and development along with a panel discussion. The inaugural session of the 2nd EMPOWER meeting began with discussions on ‘Achieving Economic Prosperity’. On this occasion, Dr. MI Sahadulla, President, FICCI, Kerala State Council, said that ‘last year Kerala promoted around135,000 entrepreneurs including out of which about 20% were women’.

Kerala State Health Minister Veena George who is participating in the side events of the meeting shared that the Kerala State Government is giving importance to women’s safety, health wages, and insurance. They have also increased the gender budget allocation to 20.9% in the year 2022-23 from 11.5%.

The G20 EMPOWER 2023 under India’s presidency aims to take forward India’s ambitious, decisive and action-oriented Women-led Development agenda. The first meeting of G20 EMPOWER was organized in Agra on 11-12 February.
