The HIV epidemic in Zunheboto was brought to light by the Nagaland DPO

According to Hokishe Chophy, the District Programme Officer (DPO) for the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS and STDs in Zunheboto, there are alarming data about HIV/AIDS in the Zunheboto District. 12 people tested positive for HIV/AIDS out of 3103 people, including 566 pregnant women, who were checked in 2024, according to a news release from Tokavi K. Zhimo, DPO. 442 cases have tested positive for HIV since the ART Center in Zunheboto opened its doors in 2011, according to DPO. Chophy emphasized that 223 of the usual clients that were being treated at the time were still alive. But 76 people have passed away from the illness, and 18 patients have forgotten about their care.

He also underlined the serious difficulties the health department is facing, including the shortage of medical staff at the OST and ART Center, which has made matters worse in this isolated area. According to the research, there are seven ICTC Centers in Zunheboto: one mobile ICTC that covers all areas, and the others are at the District Hospital, Pughoboto, Aghunato, Suruhuto, Satakha, and Akuluto. Despite these difficulties, Chophy praised the group for offering those impacted by HIV/AIDS and drug addiction free and cashless counseling, treatment, and medicine. He asked all agencies to work together in resolving the problem and called on NGOs, churches, and the general public to lend support, emphasizing the need of community involvement.
