The Guwahati chapter of JD Institute of Fashion Technology had been exhibiting artistic creations by the students of Interior, Fashion and Jewellery design, over the years through Annual Design Awards. The curtain raiser for the JD Annual Design Awards was held on 15th December, 2023 and the fashion show and interior exhibition on 16th December, 2023. Creativity, innovation and aesthetics all came together in the much-awaited Annual Design Awards of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Guwahati. The Institute was established in 1988 by Mr. Chandrakant Dalal and Mr. R.C. Dalal, which continues to serve as a platform to ignite the potential and intelligence of tomorrow’s youth. JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Guwahati has completed 18 glorious years in the industry and is one of the top-most design institutes in India. It was the first platform of its kind to impart design education in Guwahati. Founded in 2005, JD Guwahati still boasts of being a pioneer in the art and design education sector in Assam and the neighboring states as well.
The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Rupal Dalal (Managing Director of JD Institute) and Mr. Harsh Dalal (Director of JD Institute). Illustrious personalities of the design circuit of Guwahati city attended the day long extravaganza. Ms.Archana Tiwari, Designer & Owner of Pariyaat and Ar. Ritul Sharma, Architect & Owner of Akriti, along with the Directors of the Institute were among the jury. The leading personalities of fashion and interior design along with eminent industry professionals came under one roof to motivate the students to present their best work. The theme for the JD Annual Design Awards, 2023 was ‘INTERSECTION’ that merges two completely opposing notions of contrasting paradigms and forms an individualized concept.
The interior design students put up an exhibition that displayed various innovative creations and concepts. A wall concept made from eco-friendly sustainable materials that has self-cooling capabilities was one of the noteworthy creations at the interior exhibition. The fashion show started with a brief speech by Ms. Sumita Dey Deka (Center Director of JD Guwahati) that highlighted the Institute’s achievements and fostering constant growth of students in all professional fields. The fashion show showcased some splendid artistic creations and innovative design ideas. Usage of natural dyes on garments, hand painting and knotting techniques was seen. Noteworthy among these collections was the one that was designed using pre-owned denims and white shirts that were hand painted in graffiti artworks. Each collection was distinctly different form each other and displayed the thoughtful abstraction of the student’s work.
The fashion show was followed by the Annual Look book release by Ms. Rupal Dalal, Mr. Kamal Barman and the Directors of JD Guwahati. Students with exceptional work won awards like Best Design, Most Innovative, Most Commercially Viable and Best Research in Interior, Fashion and Jewellery design. Mrs. Rupal Dalal commended the student’s efforts merged with sustainability and environment- friendliness. The laborious nature of each collection and the diligence of the students was stated by Ms. Ushmita Dey Hazarika (Director of JD Guwahati). The event ended with an introduction to the entire team behind the collective effort towards the Annual Design Awards.
