The first Sylhet-Silchar Festival to celebrate the close cultural ties between the neighboring regions of India and Bangladesh began in Assam’s Barak Valley on Friday. The event is being organized to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence and 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan. In an effort to celebrate the region’s age-old, people-to-people connect amid the many commonalities between India and Bangladesh, the India Foundation is hosting this Festival on December 2nd and 3rd.
With an aim to revisit the shared heritage and shared values of the twin cities and its people, separated by international boundaries, the festival is showcasing tribal culture, cuisine, arts, crafts and local products, along with entertainment performances for the attendees. The Festival also provides opportunities to hear eminent people from both countries, talk on a variety of topics, such as mutual development and growth opportunities will be discussed In addition, the Festival will also provide a platform to explore multidisciplinary business opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, tourism, education and digital infrastructure.
In the two-day program, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Mustafizur Rahman, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and Mizoram Governor Kambhampati Hari Babu will be present along with other dignitaries.
