The 1894 Mirem Batum Lingkang War Memorial at Adi Pasi is inaugurated by Chowna Mein

The 1894 Mirem Batum Lingkang War Memorial was dedicated in Adi Pasi, in the state’s Upper Siang district, by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. The memorial honors the valor of Adi warriors from Pasi Village who used stone barriers and guerilla warfare to protect their lands against a British expedition during the third Anglo-Abor War, which took place between 1893 and 1894. According to an official statement released here, Mein, who spoke at the event on Wednesday, called the occasion a historic and poignant moment that honored the unsung heroes who opposed colonial power.

The war memorial would be a permanent remembrance of their sacrifices, enshrining their contributions in the annals of India’s liberation struggle, the deputy chief minister said. Mein called the memorial an encouragement for other towns and praised the locals for building it with their own donations. He continued by saying that such actions uplift the spirits of their forefathers and strengthen the sense of pride that comes with supporting India’s independence movement.

The deputy chief minister emphasized the close ties that exist between the people of the state and their land and the significance of striking a balance between environmental preservation and growth. He emphasized sustainable development to guarantee that future generations inherit a healthy environment, saying, “True progress is measured not just by infrastructure and industry, but by how well we protect our forests, rivers, and biodiversity.” The deputy chief minister urged the state’s citizens to preserve their traditional knowledge, languages, and practices and to be proud of their cultural legacy.
