Tezu Airport in Arunachal installs state-of-the-art ATC units

The Airdrome Control Unit (ACU) and Approach (APP) Combined Unit was officially opened at Tezu Airport in the Lohit district, significantly enhancing aviation safety and infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. The airport’s air traffic management system has undergone a crucial overhaul, greatly improving regional operating efficiency and flying safety. Deputy Commissioner K.N. Damo, who attended the ceremony, praised the development as a “historic moment” for the area.

A thorough explanation of how the ACU-APP integration would increase air traffic coverage, enhance real-time communication, and lower risk—particularly during weather disruptions or flight route changes—was given by representatives of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Operational difficulties were formerly caused by Tezu’s small ATC boundary. Operations may now be conducted more smoothly and safely thanks to the improved management of both ground and airborne movements made possible by the new system.

The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the urgency of expanding airport infrastructure, cautioning that if growth planning is postponed, land shortages and urban saturation may pose major problems. By enhancing accessibility to isolated regions of Arunachal Pradesh, the new units are anticipated to draw interest from commercial airlines, boost regional flight frequency, and support the objectives of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) project. With its increased operational capacity, safety, and regional connectivity, Tezu Airport is now well-positioned to emerge as a major aviation hub in eastern Arunachal.
