Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited have signed a Power Purchase Agreement to develop a 12MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ Pune commercial vehicle manufacturing facility, demonstrating Tata Group’s commitment to environmental sustainability through its unique manufacturing practices.
The installation, a significant step towards green manufacturing, is expected to generate 17.5 million units of electricity annually, meeting 17.2% of annualised requirements and potentially reducing over 12400 metric tonnes per kWh of carbon emissions.
Tata Motors plans to commission a solar project in Pune within six months after signing a PPA, contributing significantly to its long-term ambitions. The project will include rooftop installations, adding 12MWp to the existing 8.73 MWp. Tata Motors plans to expand its solar capacity in the coming years to meet renewable energy demand. Mr. Vishal Badshah, Vice President, Commercial Vehicle Operations, Tata Motors Limited, commenting on the project said, “As a ‘Future Ready’ company and a RE100 signatory, we are actively transitioning to renewable energy sources and this partnership marks a significant step toward our goal.”
