Tata Motors has launched a transformative environmental initiative in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, planting over one million trees to enhance the region’s green cover. Spanning 13,000 acres of previously unused land, the One Million Plantation project aims to combat distress migration among local farmers while promoting biodiversity.
Implemented under the Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP), the initiative has already seen the successful establishment of 1.5 million fruit and forest saplings across eight blocks. This effort not only rejuvenates barren landscapes but also provides sustainable livelihoods to over 13,000 farmers. Through partnerships with the BAIF Institute for Sustainable Livelihoods and Development (BISLD) and leveraging government support via the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), Tata Motors ensures comprehensive care and financial backing for sapling maintenance.
Vinod Kulkarni, CSR Head at Tata Motors, emphasized the initiative’s economic and ecological impact, stating, “The One Million Plantation initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable development and community welfare. By enriching biodiversity and supporting local economies, we are paving the way for a greener future.”
