Tamil Nadu government on Saturday extended the ongoing lockdown for another week till May 31, citing growing coronavirus cases in the state. This will be a full lockdown without relaxation, said sources.
The development comes as the state reported over 36,000 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday.
According to the fresh guidelines, all private organisation employees have been asked to work from home. Only essential government offices will function in the state during the lockdown.
Among essential services, only pharmacies, milk shops, newspaper services will remain operational in the state.
Restaurants will only be allowed to operate for parcel services, said the state government.
Food delivery services via online outlets — Swiggy and Zomato — services will operate from 6 am to 10 am, 12 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm timings only, it said.
Other than that, e-commerce services will be operational between 8 am and 6 pm, it added. People travelling through inter-district services will have to arrange e-passes to visit hospitals and attend funerals. Intra-district movement for medical reasons will not require e-passes, the state government announced. All grocery and vegetable shops will be closed and only the sale of vegetables will be done by district officials through vehicles.
