The number of active Covid cases in India fell to 4,434 with 226 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said in an update on Monday. Since the pandemic hit in early 2020, the total number of reported cases in the country so far stands at 4.46 crore Covid, while the death toll is 530,630. According to the Ministry of Health, 0.01% of the total reported infections are active cases, while the recovery rate stands at 98.80%. Lab report saying next Covid strain could be worse

A South African laboratory study using a Covid-19 sample from an immunosuppressed person for six months found that the virus had become more pathogenic, indicating that a new variant could be a reason for illness than the current predominant omicron strain. India reported 2,060 new Covid cases, taking the toll to 4,46,30,888, and 10 more deaths, taking the death toll to 5,28,905, the health ministry said on Monday. Medical experts believe that Covid-19 could never develop into a normal seasonal flu, Helsinki's Ilta-Snomat newspaper reported.
