Tripura is set to host the State-Level Khelo Tripura Para Games in the second week of December at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, with approximately 40 Divyangjan contestants expected to participate. The event will showcase 14 different sports disciplines, including shot put, 50m run, ring throw, long jump, chess, carrom, kabaddi, blind cricket, musical ball, and chair games. A preparatory meeting was held on Monday, presided over by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy.
The meeting saw the participation of several key figures, including the Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports, PK Chakraborty, Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council, Sukanta Ghosh, and representatives from various Divyangjan organizations, including the DDRC from each district. Minister Roy highlighted the inclusion of four new sports—Wheelchair, Standing Broad Jump, Buchi, and Straight Run—in the competition lineup. The decision was made to organize district-level Khelo Tripura Para Games on December 3, coinciding with Divyangjan Day celebrations.
The Minister emphasized the importance of Divyangjan in society and urged all stakeholders to ensure the success of the event. A 29-member steering committee and 14 sub-committees have been established to oversee the preparations and execution of the games. The Khelo Tripura Para Games, which first took place in 2023, are a joint initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education.
