Suspicious movement noted near BD border, police arrest a human traffickers’ gang

Three Bangladeshi females and two Indians were arrested in Tripura’s Sepahijala area on Thursday for alleged human trafficking. On Wednesday, three Bangladeshi girls were apprehended at Bhabhanipur and Kalikrishnanagar by the Jatrapura police station. Police noted that the remaining two Indians were apprehended in Kalikrishnanagar on Thursday. The police had spotted a suspicious movement by a lady. Swapna Akhtar, a Dhaka resident, was captured by authorities on Wednesday near the Indo-Bangla border. OC Subrata Debnath told Swapna first claimed to be an Indian citizen and provided a bogus Aadhaar card, which resulted in her detention for unlawfully entering India.

Just after that, two more Dhaka girls, Meem and Riya Akhtar, were apprehended in Kalikrishnanagar. During questioning, they admitted to crossing into India three days earlier and seeking asylum at Awesha Begum’s home in Kalikrishnanagar. They disclosed that Abul Kalam, who assisted them in entering the country, hid them at his mother-in-law’s home. The OC stated that Abul Kalam and his mother-in-law appear to be intimately involved in trafficking.
